Tena Krouse Named to River City Express Network Board of Directors

Richmond, VA (Aug 5, 2009) – Tena Krouse was recently named to the River City Express Network Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association Board of Directors. Tena begins serving in the capacity of President, August 2009 for a period of 12 months. “I am honored to be elected by the membership to serve as President for our chapter. In my previous positions on the Board, I have been so positively impacted by the feedback from the members on what they would like to see the Network provide. This year, in my role as President, I hope to continue to benefit the members and guests on a more individual level and lead the chapter to new heights,” Tena said. Tena went on to say, “RCEN has meant so much to me since establishing Y Not Now, LLC and has been an outlet for me to meet other female professionals in this area. I only hope to use this position to give back to the organization a little of what they have given to me.”

Kansas City, MO (Oct. 22, 2008). The American Business Women’s Association named Tena Krouse as one of the Top Ten Business Women of ABWA. For more than 50 years, ABWA’s Top Ten Business Women program has annually honored 10 outstanding members of ABWA for achieving excellence in career, education and community involvement. Each local league has the opportunity to nominate a Top Ten candidate. The final ten are selected by a panel of three non-ABWA judges. The winners are chosen for their numerous career and philanthropic achievements, as well as for their ability to demonstrate how their involvement in the Association has contributed directly to their career achievements.

Goochland County, VA (Sept. 16, 2008) – An early chill and rain did not deter the members of the Goochland County Chamber of Commerce as they came out to hear Y Not Now, LLC president, Tena Krouse, speak about how to achieve Successful Marketing in Difficult Times. In an article published in the Goochland Courier regarding the event, the chamber stated it is “aware that businesses need to strategize as to how to utilize their marketing dollars.” Tena’s presentation demonstrated to attendees how to incorporate cost-effective, user-friendly, and valuable marketing strategies into their business. Plus, she provided tips and Internet sites that business owners could employ immediately to help navigate the market during difficult times. The presentation focused on planning, relationship branding, and media communication.

Richmond’s relationship-driven business culture is compatible with Y Not Now, which develops, implements and maintains long-term marketing plans for organizations that need branding and visibility, but do not have enough work to justify a fulltime marketer. She describes her service as “like having your own part-time marketing person.”

The idea for Y Not Now came from Krouse’s experience in larger corporate marketing firms. She saw an industry focused more on sales than customers and wanted to work in a way that changed a business’s ongoing presence in the community. This means understanding the company’s vision, something that takes time.

“If someone says, ‘I need a flyer,’ I stress that the flyer needs to be part of an ongoing marketing plan,” says Krouse, who refers prospective clients in search of one-time marketing services to other professionals. These referrals work both ways; in fact, her current client base came exclusively from referrals. She works on-site with her clients weekly and describes herself as “a team member, not staff.”

The pay-off is seeing her clients meet their goals. “The beauty of my business is helping other businesses. That’s why I get up in the morning.”

Female entrepreneurs listened to three speakers discuss how to market a business, how to use the Internet to promote a company and how to overcome obstacles and stress to make a company successful. Tena Krouse, president of Y Not Now, a market management and consulting firm, said marketing yourself is like marketing a business. She said it’s important to develop a personal brand, which is “your total perceived value relative to your competition as viewed by the audience you are trying reach.” Personal brand comes into play in more instances than starting a new business. It also plays a role during job interviews or when requesting a raise. Krouse stressed the importance of thinking about your personal appearance — “if people don’t make it into the inside because of the outside, then you’ve lost your chance to make that first impression” — as well as dealing with customers in a friendly, helpful, genuine manner.
